1. What is a smart switchable film?

Smart switchable film, also known as PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) film, is a glass film that can switch between transparent and opaque states using electrical current. It provides instant privacy on demand.

 

2. How does it work?

When powered ON, the liquid crystals align, making the film transparent. When powered OFF, the crystals scatter light, turning the film opaque (frosted).

5. Is it safe and energy-efficient?

6. How is it installed?

There are two types:

• Self-adhesive film: Applied directly to existing glass

• Non-adhesive film: Laminated between glass layers during fabrication
  It must be installed by professionals to ensure performance and electrical safety.
   

7. Can it be cut or shaped?

Yes, it can be custom-cut to fit various glass shapes and sizes. However, cutting must be done before installation, and special care is needed to protect the film edges and wiring.

 

8. How long does it last?

A high-quality smart film typically lasts 5-8 years or more under normal indoor conditions.

 

9. Does it block sound or heat?

It provides moderate heat insulation and some acoustic dampening, especially when laminated between double-glazed glass. However, it is not a substitute for full soundproofing.

 

10. Can I control it remotely or with automation?​

Yes. Smart film can be integrated with:

• Wall switches

• Mobile apps

• Smart home systems (e.g., Alexa, Google Home)

• Motion or light sensors

 

11. What is the power consumption of Smart Film?

Smart film typically consumes around:

• 5–6 watts per m²

• Only when in transparent mode

Power consumption is relatively low and suitable for residential and commercial use.

12. What transformer size should I use?
Transformer size depends on the total smart film area installed.

• 50W Up to 8 m²

• 100W Up to 15 m²

• 200W Up to 30 m²

• 300W Up to 45 m²

 

For best performance, always select a transformer with 20–30% extra capacity.
 

13. Can smart film be used with projector ? 

Yes — smart film can be used with projectors, but the result depends heavily on the type of smart film and projector setup.

For projection use, the smart film is usually in its:

• OFF state (opaque / frosted) → works as a projection surface

• ON state (clear) → becomes transparent and the image disappears

This makes it useful for:
